PrivateWhat is said here stays here

A private society of some of the most accomplished Muslim physicians in Southern California. What they mostly do here is enjoy each other’s company.

The membership is handpicked and deliberately small. Department chiefs, surgeons with national reputations, practice owners, an inventor or two, and several men who are simply excellent at what they do and better company than they need to be. Between them they cover most of medicine. Not one of them joined; every one of them was asked.

This is not a study group, and nobody has ever pretended it was. There are dinners. There are mixers. There is a watch party for anything worth watching. There is a group chat that runs on jokes, memes, and a level of ribbing that would not survive contact with a hospital compliance office. Occasionally, almost by accident, something genuinely useful gets discussed.

The Society has also raised money for causes that mattered, and several members have served on humanitarian missions abroad. That side of it is younger than the social side, and there is a great deal more to do.

Why it works

Physicians at this level are not short of professional obligations. They are short of rooms where nothing is expected of them. This one asks for nothing except that you show up, keep it in the room, and be good company.

The side effect is the interesting part. A room this accomplished, covering this much of medicine, means a member can get a straight answer from almost any corner of the field in Southern California without a portal, a referral, or a hold queue. Nobody designed that. It came free with the dinners.

A note on our accreditation

The Society is not accredited by anyone, does not claim to be, and is unlikely to become so. Credit designations that appear in our internal materials are an invention of the membership and a running joke at our own expense. No continuing medical education is offered, implied, or, frankly, deserved.
